Harare — PROMINENT musician Leonard Zhakata has been featured on a gospel album by upcoming gospel artiste Tauya Murisa.
This is the first time that the secular musician has been involved in gospel music.
Zhakata's presence is hugely felt on the eight-track album titled Mwaka Wenyasha, and listeners can't miss his unique and powerful voice interwoven with Murisa's.
Talented young gospel musicians Trymore Bande, Rumbi Ndoro and Juliet Chiwasha add to the appeal of the album as backing vocalists.
The album is a good example of how combinations between established and upcoming artistes can work miracles and also help in raising the profile of the young musicians.
It opens with Zviri Muropa, in which Murisa sings about how the sins that were committed by our forefathers can still haunt us if we don't repent and follow Christ. In Mazuva Ose, people are advised to avoid blaming themselves and others and instead ask God for direction and take action to change their lives.
Nyasha DzaJesu is about the depth of Jesus' grace, while the exhilarating Danai Apinde is about how people should allow Jesus to come into their lives.
The album derives its title from the track Gore Racho in which a person praises God for the good things in his life. Zhakata and Murisa married into the same family. Murisa whose debut release was Nyasha Huru first hit the music scene in 2007.
