Nigeria: Kano, MDGs' Office Spend N835 Million on Wudil Water

The Kano State government says it expended N835 million in collaboration with Millennium Development Goals' office for the expansion of the Wudil regional water supply scheme and new pipeline to Gaya under the conditional grant scheme.

State governor Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau stated this while commissioning the completed water project in Wudil. He was represented by his deputy Engineer Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammed Gwarzo at the occasion.

He said the expansion of the Wudil water project was occasioned by increased water demand in the region, "it should be noted that water demand in the region has increased substantially that a lot more has to be done to improve the supply. The SLGP, ministry of water resources and the water board came up with a proposal for the second phase of the supply improvement which was packaged under the 2007 Conditional Grant Scheme," he said.

Shekarau further stated that the Wudil Regional Scheme was experiencing low voltage and could not be operated with power supply from the national grid, saying the generators were used to power the plant. "Government had to supply additional generators to ensure continuous operation."
