Uganda: Rotary Club Gives 22 Baby Incubators

Kampala — In a bid to reduce the high infant mortality rate, four hospitals have received 22 baby incubators worth $20,900 (about sh43.7m).

The hospitals are Kawolo in Lugazi, Naggalama Hospital in Mukono district, Holy Family Virika in Fort Portal and Kamuli Mission Hospital.

The incubators were donated by the Rotary Club of Kampala north after visiting hospitals countrywide and finding that they were in dire need of the equipment.

"The conditions of the hospitals are appalling. The incubators are inadequate, which puts at risk the lives of prematurely born babies," said Godfrey Ssebukulu, the projects coordinator.

He said the club intends to give more incubators to other hospitals.

He was speaking during the handover ceremony of incubators at the Normo Gallery in Kampala on Monday.
