Lagos — In a renewed effort by the Lagos State Government to ensure strict compliance of safety rules by ensuring that the highways and environment are kept clean and healthy, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has stepped up fresh partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the sensitization of Private Sector Participants (PSPs) who specialize in the transportation of wastes.
The Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr. Ola Oresanya made this known during a courtesy call by the Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC Mr. Jonas Agwu to his office recently.
According to Mr. Oresanya, LAWMA will soon organize training for the Private Sector Participants (PSP) and their drivers in the state and would need the FRSC to assist in educating them on further issues of road safety and precautions.
Speaking on the proposed training which is aimed at making the PSP drivers compliant, the Managing Director said that it would be done in batches and urge the Corps to always involve LAWMA drivers in their training programmes.
He also appealed to the corps to show understanding on the issue of some broken down PSP trucks on the road, adding that the Authority is partnering with LASTMA to ensure that such vehicles are moved out of the road immediately without causing any nuisance.
While thanking the corps for their support last year during the training of the road sweepers, he said "We would still need such support this year" and promised that LAWMA would give Maximum Corporation to FRSC.
In his remarks, the Lagos Mainland Unit Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Harry Salam, who represented the Lagos Sector Commander thanked the management of LAWMA for the good job in making Lagos clean and said that the purpose of their visit besides partnership is to also seek collaboration on how to manage the refuse in their various commands within the state.
He noted that the FRSC had always accorded respect to LAWMA and as a result hardly arrest their trucks and vehicles adding that such support would be maintained.
On the issue of training and enlightenment of the PSP drivers, he noted that a seminar will be arranged to sensitize them on various safety roles on the road.
In another development, the Managing Director of LAWMA said that his organization would continue to partner with private organizations and individuals in order to ensure a cleaner and healthier Lagos environment.
Mr. Oresanya said this during the presentation of 50 waste collection litter bins to LAWMA by the management of the United African Companies (UAC Foods).
He said that his organization would collaborate and support every private organization partnering with LAWMA to ensure a clean and healthy Lagos environment as long as they are LAWMA compliant.
The Divisional Managing Director of the UAC Foods, Mrs. Joan Ihekwaba while making the presentation said its part of their company's support for the good work LAWMA is doing in the environment.

Speaking further, she said that her company as a food production outfit that has most of its clients on the street cannot help but appreciate the transformation in Lagos particularly in the environment. She implored the management of LAWMA to help seek for a consideration for UAC on the State Government ban on street trading.
In the same vain, the management of TAADEL Private School, Okota-Isolo also donated a total of 10 litter bins to LAWMA for the servicing of the litter along Isolo Road.
Presenting the bins the school administration Mrs. Ayodele Oyekanmi said the school decided to donate the bins as part of its support and social responsibility to its environment of operation.
She commended the State Government and called on all corporate organization and individuals to be alive to their responsibility in ensuring that people imbibe the culture of cleanliness.
