Cameroon: MINSEP Visits Lionesses

The visit was meant to boost the moral of the players who are in a training camp in Akono.

The minister of Sports and Physical education on Tuesday paid a snappy visit to the Lionesses who are fine tuning training in Akono ahead of the qualifiers for the Africa cup of Nations to take place in South Africa later this year. During the visit, the Minister sought to know about the health and material welfare of the players during the training before promising that the government will do everything possible to enable the players prepare under the best possible conditions. The captain of the team, Onguene Gabriel, thanked government for the effort made to ensure that they train under good conditions, promising to be hardworking and disciplined during the training camp.

Outlining his programme of action, the coach, Enow Ngachu said they started by conducting some physical test on the players which proved negation. During the first phase of the training, emphasis is being put on physical fitness while the technical and tactical aspects will be done during subsequent training camps in the months of April and May.

Team doctor, Rosette Ekobo said no case of injury has been recorded during the training camp but that they were treating three cases of injuries sustained by the players during the championship matches. The Lionesses are scheduled to play a friendly against Lorema football club and there are more international friendlies in view as the training progresses. The present training camp will end on March 25 after which the coach will establish another list of 25 players to take part in the second training camp in April. Only fifteen home-based players will be selected at the end to join the professionals, who constitute the squad to defend Cameroon first in the qualifiers and the final phase of the tournament.
