Tunisia: Gammarth Aviation Training Center Increases Wingspan

Tunis — The Tunisian Aviation Training Center (ATCT) in Gammarth (north of Tunis ) contributes to train experienced pilots and those with expertise in the aircraft leadership as well as support the development of the aviation sector in Tunisia, whether for the transport of passengers or air cargo transport.

On the sidelines of the 7 th seminar of the mechanism of the Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership, organized by the Ministry of Development and International Cooperation and the European Investment Bank which was held on Monday, March 15 in Tunisia, a representative of the European Investment Bank (EIB) visited on March 16, the Gammarth aviation training center. The move is in line with EIB's commitment to boost the activities of the center to increase the center's capacity as well as aviation security.

During the visit, Mr. Abdelkarim El Ouertani, the Director General of the center gave an overview of this structure, set up in January 2003, in order to secure and recycle pilots by providing theoretical and practical lessons in the aviation sector. The center has four sectors: two of them are dedicated to theoretical courses and two provide practical courses through flight simulators.

The center trains about 850 pilots per year and provides 700, 000 hours of in -service training on Airbus 319 and Airbus 320 planes. In addition to Tunisian pilots, most of whom are trained for Tunisair, the center also trains airline pilots from Pakistan, Libya and India.
