Rwanda: High-Powered UN Delegation Arrive Tomorrow

Kigali — Representatives from the governing boards of UN will arrive tomorrow for an official visit

They will be in the country to witness how the UN operates and deliver results on the ground under the One UN reforms.

"This visit gives us a unique possibility to boost our work and share our challenges, successes and lessons learned with the Executive Board," said UN Resident Coordinator, Aurélien Agbénonci.

The visit follows a meeting of the Joint Executive Boards on January 18, 2010 where Rwanda presented progress on the Millennium Development Goals and results of UN collaboration.

The team will witness hands-on UN collaboration for example in the Child Friendly School concept, capacity strengthening for good governance and through support to land terracing for productive agriculture.

Small enterprises and cooperatives, health and nutrition centres, youth centres, alternative sources of energy like hydro power and biogas, fighting violence against women and reintegration of ex-combatants are also areas of focus.

The visit has been prepared in close cooperation with the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, John Rwangombwa, who also chairs the One UN Steering Committee.
