Awka — NATIONAL Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Members serving in Anambra state will soon have one of the best camps in the Federation, if the Anambra state government intervenes in some of the teetering problems that they have.
State Coordinator of NYSC, Sir Abu Joseph Apaleokha stated this during the swearing in ceremony of 2010 Batch 'A' corps members deployed to the state at the Permanent site of the NYSC orientation camp.
According to Apaleokha the camp is in dire need of perimeter fencing ; tarring of the access road to the camp to the expressway; sinking of additional 5 improved ventilated pit toilets to compliment the existing ones; completion of the Camp clinic block that has reached roofing level by self effort.
The NYSC Coordinator also appealed from the state government to intervene in providing them with Hiace bus for conveyance of corps members for interstate sporting and cultural engagements for their Director General's festivals and inspection ; a Ford Ranger pick up van for their kitchen service/inspection as well as an Ambulance for their services.
He restated that the NYSC family is looking forward for the Government's kind consideration and approvals even as they prayed for Governor Obi's Gods guidance and abiding grace for a second term in office.
But happy with the gesture the Governor , Mr Peter Obi has done the NYSC recently, Apaleokha thanked him for providing them with a Transformer to enable them rely less with energy supply from generator set. He also appealed for quick installation even as he thanked the Controller, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing for grading their only access road from the expressway to the camp.
He promised to co-ordinate the 88 member staff of the NYSC in the state to adequately supervise the corps service in such a way that no corps member can shortchange the state of their service.
He as well expressed his appreciation to Governor Obi for his fatherly support to the NYSC scheme in the state especially during orientation programme and passing out even as he congratulated him in his victory at the polls .
Opaleokha said," Your Excellency sir , at the close of registration at 12 midnight yesterday we registered a total of 1920 corps members but still expecting some late arrivals before closing camp registration as directed by Abuja. We also have teachers , Engineers , Scientists , Doctors , Lawyers , Pharmacists , Administrators , Social Economics and graduates of Humanities representing all the states and Abuja ".
In his speech Governor Peter Obi represented by the Secretary to the state Government , Chief Paul Odenigbo noted that human capital development through youth empowerment is the focus of the government now across the Federation . He said the government at the center has embarked on war against unemployment and have all actions directed at achieving the millennium development goals . He advised the corps members to be guided by sense of duty at all times. He read the address of the Acting President Goodluck Jonathan .
Chairman of the Governing Council/ Commissioner for Youths and Sports , Chinwe Anowai appealed on the corps members to be patriotic and dedicated in serving their father land since all their efforts would not go towards good governance and National Development
She warned that they should not misdirect their energies since the service to their fatherland is a rare opportunity they should use to prove that they are indeed patriotic. She assured that the Government would do its best at all times to ensure the best is given to the corps members in the state.
