Tanzania: Twiga Stars Face Ethiopians

Dar Es Salaam — THE captain of the national women soccer team, Sophia Mwasikili, has promised to put up a spirited show and emerge victorious tomorrow during their African Women Championship qualifiers against Ethiopia.

Sophia said that her teammates are in good shape and in high spirits ahead of their return leg encounter against Ethiopia's Lucy to be played at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

"The team is strong and spirits in the camp are high.

What is needed is public support. People should show up in large numbers during the match and cheer the Twiga Stars up," said Sophia.

She said that the team has been training hard and the players hope to emerge winners during the encounter in which Twiga Stars need a draw or victory at any margin to progress to the next round.

They convincingly won the first leg 3-1 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, two weeks ago under the tutelage of Boniface Mkwasa and Adolf Rishard.

"We played against them in Addis Ababa.

At least we know the strengths and weaknesses of our team as well as those of our opponents.

What we are doing is listen to the coach's advice and perform according to his instructions," she said.

Despite the home advantage, Twiga Stars need to be cautious and should take into account the fact that Ethiopians are faster with short passes and are more accurate.

Players in the squad include Fatuma Mustafa, Fatuma Omari, Sophia Mwasikili, Esther Chabruma, Mary Masatu, Eto Mlezi, Hellena Peter, Fridiana Daudi and Fadhila Hamadi.

Others are Maimuna Saidi, Fatuma Bushiri, Fatuma Khatibu, Mwanahamisi Omary, Asha Rashid, Zena Khamisi, Mwanaidi Tamba, Pulkheria Chalaji, Mwajuma Abdalla and Neema Kuga.
