Kenya: Leaders Want Embu Split Further

Nairobi — Embu leaders want the area split further in line with harmonisation of administrative and political boundaries.

They were presenting their views to the Interim Independent Boundaries Review Commission in Embu Town.

The Embu West and East districts' leaders called for the creation of a fourth district.

Led by Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire and her Manyatta counterpart Emilio Kathuri, they called for the harmonisation of political and administrative boundaries of Gaturi North Location.

New district

"The area needs to be split further as the populace has greatly expanded and services should be brought to them through creation of a new district," said Mr Kathuri.

But the highly charged meeting brought out differences between the older and the new generation leaders, with the old generation wanting the district boundaries to remain unchanged.

"We recognise the old boundaries that were set up since independence and we do not want new divisions that are being advocated by the youths," said the Rev Bernard Ruguta.
