Nigeria: Jos - Mosopp Seeks Protection From Genocide

Abuja — With no solution in sight to the ethno-religious crises in Plateau State, which recently claimed more than 500 lives, the Movement for the Survival of Plateau People (MOSOPP) has called for protection against genocide.

No fewer than 11 people were wednesday morning killed in Riyom village by rampaging Fulani herdsmen.

MOSOP, while calling for maximum security in the state, drew attention to the recent statement credited to the Secretary, Sultan's Farmer/Cattle Rearers Conflict Committee, Sale Bayeri, who claimed to have ordered the massacre of Berom women and children in the early hours of March.

In a release titled; "Let United Nation and International Community save us from Jos Jihad" signed by the Chairman, Mr. Nandom Kum, and Co-Chairman, Mr. Dana'an Dashe, the group expressed dismay over what it described as act of impunity and collective insult on the existence of the people of Plateau state by Bayeri in the said interview he granted some newsmen.

Kum and Dashe were angered by the blatant ineptitude on the part of the authority, which had failed to protect the innocent people but have curiously refused to prosecute those accused of aiding the mayhem.

"We are surprised, vexed and alarmed by Bayeri's brazenly inflammatory and taunting confession that he was part of the planning of the 7th March, 2010 cold-blooded massacre of women and children by his Fulani herdsmen in Dogon Nahawa and surrounding villages.

"Under normal circumstances and in climes where justice truly thrives, Bayeri should have been promptly arrested and charged to court. And, based on the evidence he has willingly volunteered, the natural outcome of that case is quite predictable," the group said.

The group expressed disappointment that up till now, the likes of Bayeri and those they have consistently accused of bias like the Army GOC in Jos, Major General Saleh Maina, have not been sanctioned or brought to book.

"As a result, we the people of Plateau state hereby call on the international community, especially the United Nations, the United States, EU, AU and Amnesty International to intervene and save us in Jos because we have a right to life.

"There is a jihad in Jos City executed by Hausa Fulani Muslims.

For them it is a Jihad but for us it is genocide and we have to be protected.

"We need your protection in Plateau state before we are exterminated by fellow humans who want us dead because we are Christians," the group said.

I think the claim by MOSOPP is an exaggeration and overblowned by them. Where were they when innocent persons were being thrown into well alive at Kuru Karama? Or when there was a little conflict inside Jos city about a person who wanted to renovate his burnt down house, how come that innocent lives outside Jos were massacred? - Bukuru, Riyom, Vom, Kuru and every part of Berom land. MOSOPP is not a true representation of Plateau people. Is what they are crying about happened in any other part of Plateau?

Let MOSOPP call to order those people who captured the Fulani cows. They should equally help the government to trend the line of peaceful co-existence. Crying wolf where there is none will not solve the problem.

The Fulani attacked the berom in reprisal for the killing of the Fulani and stealing thousand of their cattle. The Fulani were the victim of genocide. The muslim did not call the successive bloody masscre of Hausa Peoplle by the berom a CRUSADE.The truth and being the root cause of the crisis is that the berom want the Hausa people to leave plateau state. The berom see the Hausa people as threat to their culture even the governor speak Hausa fluently more than his language you may call it ethinic cleansing.the Hausa people in jos have no other home. the berom and the Hausa people should know that they must live in peace.
