Angola: Health Ministry Restores Primary Health Care

Luanda — The Ministry of Health (MINSA) is due to re-establish its primary health care programme in the communities, assured Thursday, in Luanda, the deputy minister Carlos Alberto Masseca.

The deputy minister made this announcement during the keynote address at the VI International Physicians Congress in Angola, which runs until Friday, at the Talatona Convention Centre, in Luanda.

According to the official, who was speaking on behalf of the President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, MINSA plans to revive its primary health care programme, as it is the best way to deliver an effective and comprehensive assistance to the population.

Carlos Alberto Masseca also stated that all citizens have the right to health, so and this should be a shared responsibility between the state, health professionals and the beneficiaries.

"The population, in an organized way and armed with knowledge can also participate in management of health programmes, "he said.

About the Congress, the vice Health minister said that it is a historical moment, taking into the account the country has recently adopted its Constitution and joined the third Republic, which normalizes the political and constitutional life, as well as the consummation of an era of peace and socio-economic development.

In this new era, he stressed, it is demanded from public managers a greater rigor, discipline and responsibilities towards public goods, as well as sense of mission to the increasing productivity and reducing waste.

As a result, he appealed to managers and other health professionals to excel in these values, in order to better serve the population, as the sector plays a key role to the social and economic development of the country.

Carlos Alberto Masseca, on the occasion, paid tribute to women health, since the meeting takes place in March, the month dedicated to women, stressing that they are the largest part of professionals and have contributed greatly to the growth of this branch in the country.

The event is being attended by government officials, Members of Parliament, doctors, academics, senior officers of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), diplomats, among other individuals.
