Nigeria: Auto Crash - Ondo Mourns 42

Akure — The people of Ondo State have continued to mourn the death of about 42 pupils including teachers of Arisent Nursery and Primary School Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, last Wednesday night in a ghastly motor accident along Ondo/Ore road.

The unfortunate incident occurred at about 8.15pm when the pupils and the teachers of the Islamic School were returning from an excursion to Idanre hill,

The school bus conveying the pupils and some staff of the school had a head on collision with a trailer due to the ray of the light of the trailer that distracted the driver of the ill-fated bus.

Eye witness said 38 pupils died on the spot while four others including a corper attached to the school and the proprietor of the school later died at Ore General Hospital.

However, one of the women who lost her daughter in the ill fated crash, Mrs. Ajoke Oloyode has blamed the poor state of the Ore General Hospital for the death toll

The woman, who wept profusely while speaking with Daily Champion correspondent in Ore , said a high number casualties was recorded in the crash because of lack of equipment and shortage of staff at the General hospital.

Mrs. Oloyode mother of Fatimo Oloyede who died in the accident, said her daughter was one of the victims rescued from the scene of the auto crash before she died due to poor treatment she received from the General hospital.

She said 'I watched Fatimo languishing in pains without good medical attention at the General Hospital. The poor medical attention meted to the survivors in the road mishap increased the death toll from 10 to 42. Many pupils gave up the ghost when their parents took them from the General Hospital to other private clinics in the area".

He pointed out that no fewer than thirty pupils of the school died because of lack medical equipment in the General Hospital .

Meanwhile, the remains of the proprietor of the School, Mr. Tairu Ariyo who also died in the accident was buried at his home town, Iree, in Osun State at the weekend.

Ariyo who died instantly in the crash was buried according to Islamic injunctions. He died alongside nine other students which included one of his sons.
