Nigeria: Wage Increase - Civil Servants to Begin Strike

Abuja — Workers in the employ of the Federal Government under the aegis of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC) have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike action to protest the refusal of the Federal Government to increase their wages as well as address what they described as the huge disparity between salaries of Directors and Permanent Secretaries.

The planned strike is scheduled to commence on April 8, 2010 and would affect core ministries, government agencies and parastatals and civil servants in the Presidency and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
