East Africa: Dumping Threatens Region's Cement Producers

Dar Es Salaam — FIVE East African states abolished suspended duty on cement imports in their respective national budgets in July 2008, probably unaware that they were actually signing the death warranty for the regional cement sector.

Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi took the bold move to scrap the suspended duty on cement imports, due to the region's under-capacity to meet the regional demand for the building material.
