Uganda: Commonwealth Games Out of Reach for Netballers

Kampala — Ugandan netballers' hopes of competing at the Commonwealth Games have been dashed. This is after they were locked out of this year's show set for India in October.

A list released by the International Federation of Netball Associations and the Commonwealth Games Federation indicates that 12 countries including two from Africa will go to India.

Malawi and South Africa will represent Africa.

"They used the ranking system and we did not participate in the World Cup," the national netball federation secretary Annet Kisomose explained in Kampala yesterday.

"That means that we had no chance of being ranked and there is no way they would have selected our team. We are looking at competing in the next World Cup in order to start accumulating ranking points."

Qualifiers for the World Cup will start in Mozambique later this year.
