Nigeria: Danger - EFCC Under Remote Control!

opinion

The most disturbing development in the much-touted "moving forward" from the Yar adua to the Jonathan era is the steady reversal of several of the distinguishing policy thrusts that gave Nigerians hope of better governance. The deliberate de-composition of the of the Yar adua Administration Presidency in the name of giving the Acting President his own team when he is only supposed to be holding fort reeks of sadistic opportunism in high places. No wonder what we have today is an acting president listlessly dancing to the discordant tunes of a host of powers-behind-the-throne united in a mad rush to literally loot the Presidency of all its juicy powers and patronages as quickly as possible. Along with their "lucky" lackeys, they are now the only ones satisfied with the generally disappointing first outings of the Jonathan Acting Presidency.

While the politicians continue to haggle and jostle their ways into the lucrative lee-ways opened by the acting presidency, our concern as patriotic Nigerians must be to do whatever we can to protect the gains of the Yar adua Administration from the reckless revisionism of the Jonathan Acting Presidency. In particular respect for the rule of law and the unprecedented independence of the EFCC in investigating and prosecuting highly placed looters witnessed under President Yar adua's watch must not be left to the bargaining powers of the entrenched power-brokers openly controlling the affairs of the nation today. Already there are disquieting indicators of a sinister slide-back into the OBJ style EFCC which was nothing more than a hunting dog for settling presidential scores. Nuhu Ribadu is even on his way back!
