Ghana: Police Commander Worried Over Media Reportage

The Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Stephen Andoh-Kwofie, has chastised media practitioner in the country on the need to be circumspect in their reportage. The Regional Commander bemoaned bitterly the way some media houses, particularly radio stations, are using the airwaves as police stations to settle disputes, which according to him, has done more harm than good.

To this end, he appealed to the media to use its offices to help sustain the peaceful atmosphere the country is currently enjoying, through exercising professional journalism. He made the appeal at a media briefing to express concerns such as the politicisation of criminal issues, lack of logistics to ensure effective and efficient investigations, and crime scene disturbance, through interference by the media.
