IT will be a game of contrasts when Wesbank Tigers host Oshikandela Ramblers in an MTC Premiership match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tomorrow evening.
Both teams suffered damaging league defeats at the weekend. Tigers' title aspirations were brushed away at Oshakati City as they lost 2-1, whereas Ramblers where hammered 4-0 by Black Africa to ignite fresh relegation worries.
Despite the losses, both the Tigers coach Brian Isaacs and his Ramblers counterpart Ali Akan are adamant that the result will go their way tomorrow. Tigers are looking to have their best finish in the league this season following their poor recent campaigns.
Ramblers on the other hand are hovering five points adrift of second-from-the-bottom United Stars going into the last four rounds of play.
"We must not lose our enthusiasm or momentum now. The team has worked very hard to be one of the top four teams in the league," said Isaacs.
"The main aim is to stay in the league. We need to win. I believe we can get the points against Tigers and in our three remaining matches after that," said Akan.
Tigers squandered a one-goal lead at City as they allowed their relegation-threatened hosts to come from behind and win. Isaacs feels his young side let themselves down as they lacked the will to win.
"We played well but unfortunately we lost the game. We scored first but then Oshakati City came at us."
"They were more determined and wanted to win more than us.
"We made two costly mistakes from which they scored their two goals," said Isaacs.
Following his side's crushing loss to his former employers, Akan said that they had lost to a quality opposition, but that his side needed to be less generous if they are to remain in the elite ranks.
"I know Black Africa very well. They have quality players. In the first half I think we played well but we were unfortunately not good enough and we made some mistakes and Black Africa scored. We will try not to make these mistakes again," said Akan.
Akan is hopeful that his first-choice goalkeeper Helmuth Maletzky will be fit to keep out the Tigers attack, as he will be without central defensive stalwart Chama Kaira. Kaira has a nagging ankle injury that he picked up in the loss to Black Africa.
Isaacs in contrast has no such worries, as all his stars are fit and aiming to claw third spot away from Black Africa.
African Stars can put the champagne on ice if they beat Orlando Pirates in their top-of-the-table clash on Friday. 'Stalile' are aiming for a second consecutive league triumph this season, while the Sea Robbers attempt to reclaim the title they lost last season.
