Kampala — UGANDA and the Democratic Republic of Congo have agreed to step up trade between the two countries. This was resolved in the DR Congo meetings held in Kisangani and Goma between Uganda's envoy to the James Kinobe and his Ugandan counterpart Jean Lolakombe, recently.
The meetings are a follow-up on the framework of commitment that Presidents Yoweri Museveni and Joseph Kabila signed in 2006 to normalise relations between their countries.
Lolakombe said he was glad to honour the commitment of the heads of state, which reiterates the spirit of the Ngurdoto Agreement of September 2007.
"Its objective is to lay the foundation for the revival of a sincere cooperation based on the respect for the directives and principles of UN and for the Constitutive Act of the African Union," he said.
The envoys, Lolakombe added, have the obligation to strengthen bilateral relations between their countries.
Kinobe said the two heads of state had agreed to return peace and security in the region.
