Luanda — The governor of Luanda, Francisca do Espírito Santo, said on Saturday here that cases of serious malaria have reduced considerably in the country's capital city.
According to her, the reduction of malaria cases resulted from the great efforts that the Angolan government is making in fighting against various diseases.
The governor said so in Luanda's General Hospital, located in Kilamba Kiaxi District, during a visit that she paid to that health institution.
During the visit, Francisca do Espírito Santo was accompanied by the African Union (AU) commissioner for Human Rights and Peoples' Rights, Soyata Maiga, so as to attend the provincial main event of the celebrations of the World Malaria Day to be marked on April 25.
According to her, the serious cases of malaria have also reduced considerably due to the programme of anti-vector fight happening in Luanda since 2009, with the support of Cuban physicians.
The anti-larval field activity is organised by the provincial health department, which is holding other actions to fight against malaria, supply of mosquito nets, road and air spraying and fumigation.
At Luanda's General Hospital, Francisca do Espírito Santo and Soyata Maiga toured various areas of the referred health institution where they distributed mosquito nets and learnt about the work carried out by the managing board of the hospital regarding the assistance of patients suffering from malaria.
