Uganda: Police Want Shs201 Billion for 2011 Elections

The police are seeking Shs 201 billion to keep watch over the 2011 elections, Sunday Monitor can reveal. Appearing before the Defence Committee, the Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura, with a team from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, raised concerns that they needed the cash and no money has been allocated for the activity.

Shs2.5 billion which is part of the Shs201 billion would cater for the recruitment of more 16,500 Special Police Constables (SPCs) to beef up the police personnel during the 2011 elections.
