Cameroon: Information, Hard to Access in a Press Liberty Era

Journalists are yet to understand why access to certain news items in an era of press independence is difficult.

Today, journalists in Cameroon are joining their counterparts worldwide to celebrate the World Press Freedom Day as they are measuring the level of freedom and editorial independence enjoyed by the media in every nation. But many of them are unable to understand the practice of press freedom in a society where access to certain information is like a nightmare. Public and private media practitioners have had to go through stumbling blocks in a bid to have certain news-worthy items for their media houses. A UNESCO report reveals that Freedom of Information does not guarantee access and limited access to information to pressmen limits their abilities in carrying out their duties in disseminating news.
