Johannesburg — The Cabinet has approved amendments to the Municipal Systems Act to prevent political party office-bearers from holding senior municipal posts, in its drive to turn around the fortunes of local government.
Local government has been seriously harmed by political appointments to senior municipal positions. This is the first attempt at addressing problems arising from the African National Congress (ANC) policy of deploying party cadres to senior posts.
