Nigeria: Umaru Yar'Adua - End of an Era

opinion

What a life; a life of service and a life of unqualified humility and devotion to the people. But then, as the scripture says, "no man can add a cubit to his life", there is probably nothing anybody could have done to prolong the life of our late President by any minute. May his soul rest in peace.

The tenure of late President Umaru Yar'Adua, was an irony of sorts. Irony, that although he got to office under circumstances that were not necessarily perfect and a fact, which he openly admitted, yet he symbolises for the first time, a leader who displayed a determination and commitment in spite of his limitations to correct the process of his election and in contrast bring respect and service to the office. It is also a statement of fact that he did not, for one second, allow the allure of office to carry him away neither did he for once grossly abuse the office, which he openly acknowledged, was trusted in his lap not for the asking but by providence.
