Mozambique: Bill to Tax Unprocessed Wood Exports Passed

Maputo — The Mozambican parliament, the Assembly of the Republic, on Wednesday passed unanimously the first reading of a government bill that slaps a surtax on the export of unprocessed wood.

The export of logs or stakes will pay a surtax of 20 per cent on the FOB price. Wood that has only undergone primary processing into sawn planks or boards will pay an export surtax of 15 per cent. Wooden railway sleepers or parquet squares will pay five per cent, and wooden crosspieces three per cent.
