Kigali — The US Embassy, in partnership with Kigali Health Institute (KHI) launched the English Access Micro Scholarship program, which will teach English to secondary.

At the official launch at KHI, it was announced that the objective of the program is to address the challenges faced by many students who find in difficult to express themselves in English, yet most universities here and abroad use English as the language of instruction.

Speaking to students and stakeholders, the US Embassy Public Affairs official, Edwina Sagitto, said that 20 secondary students had been selected for the first phase of the 2-year program, and they will be assisted by several teachers from Rwanda and America.

"Empowering the youth through a good education is one of the ways that Rwanda will achieve her Millennium Development Goals," Sagitto said.

"The students, who go through this training, will have no fear of applying to study abroad or sharing their opinion with other people since English is the most used language in the world."

The academic registrar of KHI, Firmare Sabimana, commended the US initiative.

"Youth are the future leaders of our country and must be assisted in every way possible to develop their skills and knowledge," Sabimana said.
