Tanzania/Eritrea: Eritrea Soccer Women Arrive Friday

Dar Es Salaam — ERITREA'S national women soccer team are expected to arrive in Dar es Salaam on Friday ahead of their first leg Africa Women Championship qualifier against Twiga Stars of Tanzania.

The game is slated for Sunday at Uhuru Stadium, in Dar es Salaam.

According to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) spokesperson, Florian Kaijage, the Eritreans would arrive in a contingent of 23 members ready to take on the Tanzanian outfit.

The local queens eliminated first round opponents Ethiopia by an unassailable 4-2 goal aggregate and a victory at home in their first leg will put them in an advantageous position to qualify for the women's finals scheduled for next year in South Africa.

Kaijage said that all plans were in place for the visiting team. He urged Tanzanians to turn up in large numbers to cheer the local team up. Twiga Stars are looking for a home victory before travelling to Asmara in Eritrea two weeks later for the second leg.

While Twiga Stars are in final preparations for the Eritreans' visit, their brothers in the Taifa Stars outfit kick off their training this morning ahead of the second leg of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Rwanda's Amavubi Stars on June 5.

Coach Maximo retained the majority of the players who faced Rwanda in the first leg match, in which Stars struggled in the first half but came back strongly after the break to settle for a 1-1 draw.

The players who were expected to arrive at the team's camp today include goalkeepers Shabani Kado, Jackson Chove and the national Under-20 goalie Kabali Abubakari Faraji.

Others include wing-backs Shadrack Nsajigwa, and Stephano Mwasika and African Lyon's youthful Abuu Ubwa, centre-backs Nadir Haroub, Aggrey Morris, Dickson Daudi and Tumba Sued from Azam/national U-20.

Midfielders are Erasto Nyoni, Nurdin Bakari, Kigi Makasi, Shaban Nditi, Abdi Kassim, Selemani Kassim and Mao Ally Bofu from Azam/national U-20. Strikers include Mrisho Ngasa, John Bocco, Jerson Tegete, Mbwana Samatta and Thomas Ulimwengu.

Simba players who are in the national team will return at the end of their Kagame Cup campaign in Kigali, Rwanda. The players are Salum Kanoni, Juma Jabu, Kelvin Yondan, David Naftal, Jabir Aziz, Uhuru Selemani and Musa Hassan 'Mgosi'.
