Zimbabwe: U.S., EU Dig in On Sanctions

Harare — THE United States has brushed off Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on the issue of targeted sanctions against the ZANU-PF leadership at a time the European Union (EU) has reiterated that the impending re-engagement talks with Harare would be a hard nut to crack unless the Global Political Agreement (GPA) is fully implemented.

Contrary to State media reports, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai who is in Washington to receive a democracy award raised the targeted sanctions issue saying there must be acknowledgement on the part of the United States that Zimbabwe has made some progress since the formation of the unity government in February last year and that President Robert Mugabe was committed to reform.
