Sierra Leone: Bombali Tops Elephantiasis Cases

Freetown — National programme manager of Onchocerciasis in the ministry of health and sanitation has revealed that Bombali district in the north currently has the highest number of elephantiasis cases.

Briefing journalists in Freetown on the campaign against 'lymphatic filariasis' that would be undertaken from June 3 to 7 across the country, Dr. Santigie Sesay said a study was made by his ministry in collaboration with the non-governmental organization, Hellen Keler International, to get result of the disease nationwide. He however expressed doubts as to how Bombali district has come to record the highest number of people infected with the elephantiasis disease.
