Uganda: Christians Celebrate Martyrs Day Today

Namugongo — Thousands of pilgrims from across the world will today pray at the Uganda Martyrs' shrines at Namugongo and Nakiyanja to commemorate the death of Uganda Martyrs in 1886. The day is celebrated annually on June 3 in memory of 30 martyrs who died for their faith on the orders of Ssekabaka Mwanga 11.

At the Catholic Shrine at Namugongo, at least 30 bishops and about 400 priests are expected to participate in today's liturgy that will be led by the ecclesiastical province of Tororo and celebrated by Bishop Henry Sentongo.
