Nigeria: Urhobo Faults Sagay's Comments On Warri

Ughelli — Elder statesman, Dr. Emmanuel Urhobo, has advised Itsekiri leaders to develop good relationship with the Urhobo of Warri and other ethnic groups, just as he warned Professor Itse Sagay not to embarrass the Delta State government by making statements capable of causing rancour among ethnic groups in Warri area.

The member of Agbarha Warri Leaders of Thoughts, who was reacting to a story credited to Professor Sagay that Warri belongs to the Itsekiri published on May 10, 2010, expressed disappointment at Sagay (SAN), accusing the lawyer of falsifying history, avoiding colonial treaties made by the British Colonial authorities, land leased made with the Urhobo of Agbaha kingdom of Warri and the Supreme Court landmark judgment No. SC/309/76 between the Itsekiris and the Okere Urhobo, which he (Dr. Urhobo) said the Supreme Court made clear that the title of over lordship of 'Olu' of Warri does not cover the ownership of lands in Warri and that the title of 'Olu' of Warri was a creation of the defunct Action Group political party led by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who the Itsekiri voted for in 1952.
