South Africa: Bafana's World Cup Dream in Tatters

Johannesburg — SA FACED the ignominy of becoming the first host nation to fail to progress beyond the group stages of the World Cup after a 10-man Bafana Bafana collapsed to a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Uruguay at a chilly Loftus Stadium last night.

No host nation has ever failed to at least qualify for the second round of the global showpiece, and Bafana's chances now hinge on the outcome of the encounter between group rivals France and Mexico at Polokwane's Peter Mokaba Stadium tonight.
