Rwanda: Kayumba Wounded in South African Gun Attack

Johannesburg — RWANDA's former Ambassador to India, Gen. Kayumba Nyamwasa, was yesterday shot and critically wounded in Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to media reports, Kayumba was shot at the gates of his home by a lone gunman who immediately fled the scene.

The former army officer and diplomat was rushed to hospital with bullet wounds in the stomach.

Efforts to reach the South African Police for comment were futile by press time, but Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Louise Mushikiwabo, was shocked by the news.

"We learned the news through the media; we have no confirmation of the incident. The Government of Rwanda does not condone violence, and we wish the family strength and serenity," she said.

"We trust the South African Authorities' ability to investigate the incident thoroughly".

The South African city is ranked as one of the most violent in the world. The country's police force reported that despite crime having reduced by 10.4% between April 2008 and March 2009, over two million serious crimes were reported countrywide.

The most known fatality was the shooting to death of reggae superstar, Lucky Dube, during an attempted car-jacking in October 2007.

Kayumba is not the first Rwandan national to fall victim to violent crimes in South Africa. In recent years, several Rwandans have been attacked and some of them killed.

Before his appointment to represent the country to India, Kayumba Nyamwasa served in many senior positions, among them, Chief of Staff of the Rwandan army.

Who had any more interest in seeing Kayumba dead than Rwandan President Paul Kagame? Kayumba is a Tutsi popular with both Hutu and Tutsi who could lead an army of both into Rwanda with the credibility of a national liberation army, which could not be accused of being an army of genocidaires because he himself is a Tutsi.

@Ann. Now thats a contradiction-if they Hutus are still accusing him together with Kagame for being responsible for the death of Habyarimana ,then how can he be popular among the Hutus? If he is popular among the Hutus then even Kagame may as well be bese the two are accused of the same thing. .The are so many genocidaire in sounth africa who could kill him hoping that it would be blamed on Kagame. That way they would have killed two birds with one stone.-Thnak about it,if kagame wanted to kill Nyamwas would he go and say it in parliament as claimed by his wife? would he choose a momnet like this -before elections?

..would he choose a momnet like this -before elections?

    Yes.

Would Kagame fear public scrutiny by harassing imprisoning the 'democracy'-seeking individuals ( and the lawyers of) who would oppose him in the elections?

    Yes.

It is not a matter of "choosing" or "world opinion". That does not bother Kagame or his Tutsi murderers who have roamed the lakes region killing the Hutu refugee kids, mothers and fathers (leisurely, methodically and without a hint of fear of repercussions) over the past four decades.

With the loud USA and the EU (and hence the UN, ICC, the leading world propaganda media (like BBC, VOA, CNN, Time, New York Times, ..) the NGOs, human rights bodies AND their god(s)) in their camp, what do the killers like Kagame, Museveni, Kibaki and Mubarak have to fear?

Some may notice uncanny, inescapable parallels between Kagame's and the Tutsi's media propaganda thrusts and their impunity from international condemnation and/or punishment to that exhibited by the Jews and the Israel leaders (like Netanyahu, Sharon, Begin).

Do you remember the muted world response following the recent assassination of an Arab leading figure - who opposed the the actions of vindictive, murderous policies of Israel's leaders?

Total impunity for the terrorists: No effort was made to trace, apprehend and punish/kill the terrorists, suspected terrorists and their accomplices - even as video and other documentary evidence exists. [War on Terror.]

Yet we remember how Qaddafi and the Libyan people were hounded and punished by the USA, EU countries and the international community - because the culprits involved in the downing of a plane over Scotland may have been to Libya.

How about the on-going collective rape, torture and slaughter of Afghani - because ten bad (Saudi Arabian) people may have been to Afghanistan? Aren't there multitudes of murderous KKK and Aryan supremacist terrorists living in USA? [Selective War on Terror.]

We presume that no serious effort will be made (by the boer's South Africa nor the self-appointed world's policeman) to trace the killer(s) in this case. Nor will the world show any inclination, in lieu of firm evidence, to punish the cocky, evasive, Tutsi-supremacist 'genocidaire' Kagame - Qaddafi-style. [At least we know there was only one killer. How do we know that?]

" .. kagame wanted to kill Nyamwas would he go and say it in parliament "

Vicious, murderous criminals - especially of the Mafia types - are known to boast about their prowess. Do you remember Pol Pot?

Think about the "devil may care" response of Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld of the USA regarding the murder of the erstwhile friendly Saddam Hussein.

And Tony Blair's boastful assertion that he would do it again - that is the rapes, tortures, bombing, slaughter and dislocation of over a million innocent people in Iraq - on a pious whim?

A murderer's world is a vicious world. Survival. You seem to believe that a vicious thug would not kill a friend on a suspicion. Little do you know.

    Correction:

" .. The Government of Rwanda does not condone violence ..(except that which is directed against the enemies of the state - especially the Hutu) .."
