Nigeria: Attackers Drive Nail Into Politician's Head

Lafia — The Agyaragu community near Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, was in fear over a weekend incident in which a leading politician in the area was attacked and a nail was driven into his head for supporting one of the aspirants for the Nasarawa-South senatorial seat.

Abubakar Talatu, a youth leader and coordinator of Senator Suleiman Adokwe's (PDP Nasaraw-South) re-election bid was held at the early hours of Saturday by armed youths who stormed his residence with weapons drove the nail into his head after assaulting him and his wife.

Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Richard Akoji said he was not aware of the incident. "I could not have heard it because it was Saturday. When I resume office on Monday, I will go through the signals", he said.

However, the district head of Agyaragu, Mallam Isiyaku Mailafia confirmed the incident to newsmen. He said elders in the area had agreed to meet to decide on measures to resolve the issue and check against a re-occurrence.

The traditional ruler said he accompanied the police to rush the victim to hospital for treatment.
