Kenya: Maternity Hospital to Be Built in Isiolo

Nairobi — A hospital offering care to expectant women is being set up in Isiolo.

The Sh40 million hospital which aims to reduce maternal deaths in the area is set to be complete within 34 weeks.

The project at Kambi Juu estate is the brain-child of Isiolo Catholic Diocese Bishop Luigi Locati who was killed on July 14, 2005.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony at the site of the proposed Isiolo Matercare hospital, the director of the Matercare International Dr Robert Walley said the facility will help mothers who do not have access to quality health service in Isiolo.

He said the high maternal death rates among pastoralists women from far flung areas was appalling and required urgent interventions.
