THERE'S one word that is always missing when we talk about our education system in all its ramifications, and whether it is at pre-school, intermediate or tertiary levels, and that is quality.
In the news this week were various reports about students' dissatisfaction with their curricula. In Windhoek, College of Education students marched on the Government offices, protesting against the change in their studies from four to five years, and from diploma to degree course. The change has come about as a result of the merger between the University of Namibia with education colleges, which has resulted in the BETD (Basic Education Teachers Diploma) being phased out to accommodate a B.Ed (Bachelor of Education Degree) and students felt they had not been consulted.
