Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed, has stated that the FCT administration is committed towards the improvement of science, technical and vocational education as a means of wealth generation to impact on the nation and on the global stage.
The minister said this during a 2-day stakeholders meeting on the establishment of an International Technical & Vocational Institute.
He expressed hope that the meeting of intellectuals and academics will provide a platform for the smooth take-off of the institute.
Senator Mohammed who was represented by the FCT Secretary for Education, Alhaji Halilu Pai, said the establishment of International Technical and Vocational Institute holds the key to government's efforts in pursuance of socio-economic benefits of not only the FCT, but also the nation as a whole.
He added that the primary focus of science, technical and vocational education is wealth creation, employment generation, development of human resources, capital building, improving the quality of life and poverty alleviation, noting that without all these requirements, the nation cannot attain the desired human capital development.
In his welcome address, the Secretary for Education who was represented by the Director, FCT Agency for science & Technology, Hajia Fatima Baba-Ari, pointed out that, the FCT has always been desirous of putting in place a world class technical and vocational institute which will cater for its teeming unemployed residents, thereby improving the quality of life of the people.
She lamented that, the establishment of an international technical and vocational institute is a way forward in the quest to acquire deep and sufficient technical knowledge to meet the aspiration and to remain relevant among the developed nations.
Hajiya Baba -Ari therefore called on the participants not to relent in the efforts to lay a solid foundation for the socio-economic growth of the FCT as it has potentials to aid the growth of other sectors.
