Sierra Leone: Sprinter to Sign Professional Contract in UK

Freetown — Sierra Leone's young sprinter, Michaela Kargbo has departed the country for a professional athletics contract in England.

According to the young star's coach, Jimmy Wright, the talented sprinter who represented the country in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China left Freetown on Sunday and is expected to sign a contract with one of the top athletics clubs in the United Kingdom.

Wright said the sprinter's move to England came after she met with UK-based Robert Claire manager, Bill Claire in Freetown during one of her training sessions at the National Stadium.

"Her meeting with Bill changed everything for her, since that day Bill was sponsoring her even at the traditional Boxing Day sports at the National Stadium," Wright said.

According Wright, Kargbo's move to the UK will definitely improve the athlete as she is rapidly becoming the country's fastest female sprinter.

He said: "I have no doubt in her; she is serious in doing the sport, I believe she can make us proud and improve on her ability."

Please note that Michaela's sponsor is Bill BROOKMAN, Managing Director of Robert Claire & Co Ltd, who are shippers from the UK to Freetown. I met with Bill in London last Friday and he was very pleased to be sponsoring Michaela. Bill is a great supporter of Salone.
