Nigeria: World Bank Donates Learning Materials to Unity Schools

Umuahia — IN its effort to promote learning in Nigeria, especially in the field of Science and Technology at post-basic level, the World Bank has embarked on the provision of basic learning materials to unity schools across the nation.

The project, which is on-going in all the unity colleges in Nigeria, falls under the bank's step-B project which stands for Science and Technology Education at post-basic level.

The objective of this project is for Nigerian Federal Post-basic education and research sub sector to produce more and better qualified science and technology graduates, as well as higher quality and more relevant research.

Under this programme, each unity college will get $250,000 (about N37,500,000). And the money is expected to be expended in areas, including purchase of modern laboratory equipment, light rehabilitation of essential laboratories and cooperative international scientific projects with research teams both in and outside Nigeria.

Others are installation of ICT, library media and related equipment, training of staff for capacity building and management, workshops, conferences, study tours and research stipends.
