Angola: Decision On Equatorial Guinea's Admission Submitted to Heads of State Summit

Luanda — The decision on an eventual admission of Equatorial Guinea as a member of the Portuguese-speaking Community (CPLP) has been forward by the organisation's Standing Concert Committee to the 8th Summit of Heads of State and Government, set to be held on July 23, in Luanda.

The information was released Wednesday by the chairman of the CPLP Standing Concert Committee, António Russo Dias, at the end of a meeting of that organ, which culminated with the approval of more than 20 documents that will be submitted to the Summit of Heads of State and Government, after an analysis on Thursday by the Council of Ministers of the community.

According to him, the committee decided that the matter does not fit within its powers and therefore needs to be examined by the heads of States of the community.

Among the documents approved, he highlighted the community's plans to settle the situation in Guinea Bissau, the expansion of the Portuguese language and the Portuguese-speaking Citizen Status and the cooperation among member states in the health sector.

During the 8th Summit of CPLP Heads of State and Government, Angola will take up the presidency of the inter-regional organisation, replacing Portugal.

The event is being preceded by the meeting of the Council of Ministers, on Thursday.

What was the final decision? Was Equatorial Guinea granted admission to the CPLP or are they still only an observer?
