Africa: Government Solves AU Delegates' Accommodation Dilemma

The government has announced that it has solved the hiccups that relate to lack of facilities and services for AU delegates. Daily Monitor reported on Tuesday that some sessions at the summit at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort turned stormy as several delegates reportedly complained about unfair treatment.

But Ms Monica Kalemba, the chairperson of AU media Sub-committee, said yesterday that most of the problems that related to lack of facilities have been sorted out.

Uganda was reportedly accused of failing to honour a promise of at least five rooms per delegation at Munyonyo, and allowing other countries to book up to 20 rooms.

In a statement to Daily Monitor yesterday, Ms Kalemba, said; "I wish to clarify that all delegates were advised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to book and reserve their rooms by June 30, in Munyonyo but some did not do so.

Consequently, the management of the hotel allowed other delegates to take more rooms..... However, government has already solved this problem. "
