Liberia: Monday is "Independence Day"

The President of Liberia Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has, by Proclamation declared Monday, July 26, 2010, as "INDEPENDENCE DAY", to be observed throughout the territorial confines of the Republic as a "NATIONAL HOLIDAY".

According to a Foreign Ministry release signed by Assistant Foreign Minister for Public Affairs, Josephus M. Gray, the official Festive Celebration of the this year's INDEPENDENCE DAY will be observed under the theme: " Utilizing Our Diversity to Enhance National Unity and Harmony, in Sanniquellie City, Nimba County, Republic of Liberia.

The release states that President Sirleaf has directed that all citizens of Liberia, and all foreign Residents within the borders of the Republic of Liberia, to observe the Day appropriately, and ordered that all Government Offices and Business Houses be closed on the Day, from six o' clock ante meridian to six o' clock post meridian.

President Johnson Sirleaf has further directed that all Citizens and Foreign Residents in solemn to cooperate with all Prelates, Priests, Deacons, Evangelists, Imam, Elders and other members of the Sacerdotal Order, regardless of Religious Creed, to gather together with One Purpose in their respective places of Worship, in each City, Town, Village, Hamlet, Home, especially in Sanniquellie City, nimbi County, On Friday, July 23, 2010 and Sunday, July 25, 2010 to turn to God in Thanksgiving and Praise for His blessings in the past and present.

Under the "Patriotic Observances Law", Title 26, Liberian Code of Laws of 1956, the 26th Day of July each year is set aside as Public Holiday, to be known as " Independence Day", and to be appropriately celebrated.

Meanwhile, God in His infinite goodness and mercy has blessed and prospered the work of the minds, hearts and hands of all the people of the Republic of Liberia from July 1847, when Liberia was declared a free, sovereign and Independent State.
