Sierra Leone: Gambia Threatens Shooting Stars With Professional Players

Freetown — The technical team of Gambia's U-20 side has invited five professional players for their first leg qualifying tie of the African Orange U-20 Championship against Shooting Stars of Sierra Leone in Banjul, The Gambia on July 24.

According to latest reports from The Gambia, the invited professionals, Sainey Mboge, Muhammed Touray, Abdou Darboe and Emanuel Gomez and former captain of the U-17 Ebrima Bojang have all joined the team's training session in Banjul.

According to Sanaibou who is working for the Point Newspaper in The Gambia, Sainey Mboge is a Gambian-born Eldon Celtic utility player who arrived in Banjul on July 4. She said the 18-year-old forward was quick to honour the invitation of the Gambia Football Association (GFA).

Mboge, who could not hide his satisfaction after he received the GFA invitation to play for his country, said he was surprised but at the same time happy to be part of the team which, he added, has always been his dream.

Mboge left The Gambia for the United Kingdom at the age of 13, but in an interview at his residence in Kanifing he said he was delighted to receive an invitation from GFA. H said he is more determined to render his best in helping the team achieve success.

Mboge began his career with the Glory Baptist School team before moving to Marina International School a few years later. He had signed a two-year semi-professional contract with Unity FC, a youth team in the UK before proceeding to another youth team in Reading, called AFC Charvil where he managed to hold down a regular first team place.

Muhammed Touray and Abdou Darboe have all started training with the rest of the squad but Emanuel Gomez is ruled out for the game due to an injury, while the technical team are confident former U-17 captain, who is based in France with St. Ettien, Ebrima Bojang will join the squad before the match.
