Zimbabwe: Gay Rights Activist Acquitted in Country

A Zimbabwean gay rights activist has been found not guilty of pornography charges after a police raid in May on his group's offices, his lawyer said on Monday. Ignatius Muhambi, an accountant for Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe, was arrested along with office administrator Ellen Chademana during the raid.

Muhambi's lawyer Jeremiah Bamu said the prosecution failed to establish a case against him at the close of their submissions on Friday and the magistrate acquitted him.

Prosecutors said police found in the office a DVD showing men having sex. At first, the pair was also accused of insulting Mugabe, but the charge was never formally filed.

On Monday, a magistrate's court postponed Chademana's trial until 2 August.

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has often homosexuals in speeches. This year he has repeatedly vowed to resist the inclusion of gay rights in a new constitution proposed for Zimbabwe. Last week he said same-sex marriages were similar to "dog behaviour".

South Africa is the only nation Africa that gives equal rights to homosexuals.

    faith, let him with no stone cast it. It's not up to anyone to cast it at all. yes according to the bible as what my brother James would say, in the old testament a person like this would be an abomination in the sight of God. it is up to God to deal with the situation,

    Faith,what is the fear about gay people? We become too concerned about people who are minding their business. I have my reservations about gays, but I do respect their rights!

    Phiri;

    Homos do not deserve any rights at all. I personally to not have any respect for gays whatsoever. By ignoring gays and lesbians to "mind their business" we will be promoting an abominable act and by so doing sinning before God, thus, risk being collectively punished for the sins of a few idiotic, retarded, stupid and mentally sick individuals who do not want to respect nature and God.

    God created us the way we are - man and woman - for a reason. Anyone going against God's teachings should be shown the door by us first and by GOD next - when they die. But if they die without being told why homosexuality is wrong God will have difficulties ruling against such an individual because they will contend that they were never told why it was bad.

    The "fear about gay people" is that they contaminate good people and make our society rotten. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by God because people had taken the stance of not interfering in these people's so-called "rights". If they are going to continue doing it, it should be against the law instead of gay rights being enshrined in our supreme law.

    I am, therefore, totally opposed to gay rights. These people are worse than pigs and dogs and should be told what is good and what is bad because they do not seem to know. If we are so passionate about 'rights' why do we arrest someone walking naked? It should be his/her right, hence, should be allowed to do as they please. Why do we arrest someone having sexual intercourse with an animal?

    You may argue that walking naked in public and having sex with a goat, for example, are undesirable acts but so is kissing of two men or women in public or even in a bar or hotel. This should never be allowed. I just do not understand why our judges are so lenient to these misfits.

    Does that say anything about our judges? Could they be part of this evil cult that is growing so fast? Remember these people are the richest and most influential in the world today. Our judges may have been compromised to the extent that they can not rule against gays and lesbians because of their ''involvement' in the evil, satanic, devilish and abominable acts.

    Food For Thought!!!

    I don’t have respect for people with an IQ of a broomstick.

    This includes both Mugabe and takunya_ndebvu.
