Angola: Delegation to CPLP Games Leaves for Maputo

Luanda — The Angolan delegation made up of 114 people, 70 of whom are athletes, left this Tuesday for Maputo City, Mozambique, to participate in the 7th Games of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP).

Speaking briefly to ANGOP, at the airport, the national director for sport, Raimundo Ricardo, who heads the group, said that he believes in a positive participation of Angola, since the athletes had a very good preparation and are well motivated.

"They got several incentives from us so that they give their best and dignify the best way possible the name of Angolan sport, so we are confident about getting satisfactory results during this great mission" he explained. According to the director, on Monday the athletes pledged to win a high number of gold medals and the first place in the general standing of the competition.

The Angolan delegation is also made up by technicians, masseurs and sports officials. The CPLP games will include competitions in male and female category and sports like handball, athletics, basketball, football, tennis, beach volleyball and sports for the disabled. These games started in 1990.

The CPLP comprise Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Brasil.
