Modou Kanteh, the Daily Observer's Foni correspondent has been nominated by the World Journalism Institute in New York to attend the 35th annual convention of the National Association of of Black Journalists (NABJ) to be held in San Diego, California, USA.

According to a press release from the institute, Modou Kanteh is one of the 10 qualified journalists selected around the Continent of Africa to attend this year's convention. The event will take place from 28th July to 1st August 2010.

In an interview with the Daily Observer shortly before his departure, Kanteh said: "This is indeed an opportunity, looking at the list of resource persons lined-up for the event." He pointed out that the convention will provide him the opportunity to learn new things about journalism. Kanteh is also expected to attend the World Christian Endeavour Union's Convention to be held in Peru. In Peru he will witness the launching of a book in which he contributed.

He thanked the Observer management for approving his journey to the USA and also thanked the World Journalism Institute for creating the opportunity for African journalists. Kanteh departed Banjul Monday 26 July, 2010 for the USA.
