Cameroon: Insurance Companies Go Closer to the Public

Insurance companies are preparing to host an Insurance Day in Douala under the banner of the ASAC.

The Association of Insurance Companies in Cameroon, ASAC, will be organising the first edition of the Insurance day in Douala from July 28-30, 2010 at the Party Hall in Bonanjo Douala. The information was made know during a press conference organised by ASAC at Akwa Palace Hotel on July 23. The celebration which will be carried out by the 27 registered insurance companies in Cameroon will be on the theme; Insurance for all and will have sub themes on topics like accidents, health, fire incidents, among others. The president of ASAC, Martin Foncha said the main objective of the event is to bring insurance closer to the public, and to make the public understand the need to insure. Other objectives are to break the wall of incomprehensive which exist between insurance companies and the insured persons, revalorise the profession which is not loved because it is not known and above all create a culture of insurance.

The activities which they say will be unforgettable were presented by the Vice President of ASAC, Mme Jacqueline Caselegno. They include roundtable conferences and debates, teachings about insurance and procedures to subscribe as well as documents needed, forums between heads of enterprises and the leaders in insurances, possibilities to liaise in business. Finals in football, handball and tennis competitions, among others will also be organised.

During the press conference it was said ASAC has drawn closer to the journalists because they believe they are the focal point in educating the public and to project as well as their "noble and kind intentions". For this reason, they plan to train journalists on insurance. Participants and journalists raised some questions on some worries concerning the operation of insurance companies.
