The Liberian Students Union in China (LSUIC) has elected and inducted new corps of officers to steer the affairs of the union for a two year period. The induction of the seven member leadership climaxed the union’s Third Annual Conference held in Beijing which coincided with Liberia’s 163rd Independence Anniversary.

The three-day conference, held from July 24-26, was held at the Liberian Embassy in Beijing. On Monday July 26, Liberia’s Ambassador to China, Mrs. Neh Dukuly Tolbert, inducted the new leadership into office at an elaborate ceremony held to mark Liberia’s independence. The event was also witnessed by several Liberians from across China.

Those inducted include; Mr. Augustine Tokpa, President, a Master’s degree candidate in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Tongji Medical College in Wuhan; Mr. Sarwee Faeflen, Vice President, a Master’s degree candidate in Environmental Science at Southwest University in Chonqing and Mr. Calvin Gaye, Secretary General, a Master’s degree candidate in Meteorology at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology in Nanjing.

Others inducted include; Mr. Bannel Dennis, Financial Secretary, a Master’s degree candidate in Public Health at Xian Jiaotong University in Xian; Ms. Patience Monica Martor, Treasurer, a Bachelor of Science degree candidate in General Medicine at Tongji Medical College in Wuhan and Ms. Nenyarker Vaye, Chaplain, also a Bachelor of Science candidate in General Medicine at Tongji Medical College in Wuhan.

The Union also certificated its outgoing leadership for their efforts. A special mention was given to its outgoing president, Mr. Alexander Nuetah, for his pioneering efforts. He is credited with being the brainchild of the Liberian Students Union in China. He is currently a Doctorate degree candidate in Agricultural Economics at the China Agriculture University in Beijing.

The LSUIC, which was formed in November 2005, represents the interest of Liberian students studying in China. The Union’s next annual conference will be held in Shanghai in July 2011 in observance of its rotational policy regarding venue.
