Namibia: Student Accused of Abortion Re-Appears

THE case of a student nurse at the Rundu Health Training Centre, who allegedly terminated a five-month pregnancy, has been postponed to August 9.

Wamunyima Mumbu, 23, was arrested by the Namibian Police on June 11.

During her appearance in the Rundu Magistrate's Court on Monday, Magistrate Victor Nyazo did not ask her to plead, but postponed the case to next month for legal aid representation and further Police investigation.

Mumbu allegedly took abortion pills in her hostel room, and placed the dead foetus in a handbag to presumably discard it the next day.

A fellow student who witnessed the incident reported it to the hostel superintendent, who called the Police. - Nampa
